Home Frequently Asked Questions — Working with Smilescooter

Answers to the questions distributors, importers, and brand owners ask us most often, covering ordering, production, customization, shipping, and compliance. For product-specific questions on the in-stock D01 EU-spec model, see the D01 page.

Ordering

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

Our standard minimum order quantity is one 20-foot container (1×20GP) per model. Ready-stock items can ship at this container level, while OEM and ODM runs carry their own minimums. Tell us your target model and market and we will confirm the exact quantity and the best container fit.

What payment terms do you accept?

We accept T/T (telegraphic transfer) and L/C (letter of credit). For production orders the standard structure is a 30% deposit with the 70% balance paid before shipment; in-stock orders are settled by T/T before dispatch. Terms are confirmed on the proforma invoice before production starts.

Do you provide samples before a bulk order?

Yes, we provide samples before a bulk order. Sample lead time is 3–5 days after the specification is confirmed, and samples are chargeable, with the cost depending on the model and configuration. A sample lets you verify build quality, finish, and compliance before a production run.

Production & Quality Control

What is your production capacity?

Our factory produces about 2,100 units per day across three assembly lines, for an annual capacity of 450,000+ units. This capacity covers our own models and OEM/ODM programs, so large or repeat orders can be scheduled without long queues.

What is your production lead time?

Sample lead time is 3–5 days; bulk production is 15–20 days after the deposit is received and the specification is locked. Custom colors, custom tooling, or peak season can extend this. In-stock models such as the D01 ship immediately with no production wait.

How do you control and test quality?

We run quality control in three stages: incoming material inspection (IQC), in-process inspection during assembly (IPQC), and outgoing QA with AQL sampling (OQA), plus an aging and burn-in test. Every unit is function-tested before packing. Third-party inspection by SGS, TÜV, or your own agent is welcome before shipment.

What is your defect / RMA rate?

Our field defect (RMA) rate is below 0.8%. We track returns by batch and feed the findings back into incoming-material checks and assembly. The modular build keeps any in-field replacement simple, which holds the rate down and limits your after-sales cost.

Customization (OEM / ODM)

Do you accept OEM production?

Yes, we accept OEM production. OEM covers color, packaging, firmware, and exterior parts, with a typical minimum of one 40-foot HQ container (1×40HQ). Orders run on our existing platforms with your branding, so tooling and validation time stay short. Tell us your target model and volume for an OEM quote.

Can I sell under my own brand (private label)?

Yes, you can sell under your own brand. We apply your logo, color scheme, and packaging to our production models. Private-label branding is available on production orders, not on in-stock batches that are already built. Send your brand assets and we will confirm what is feasible for your chosen model.

Can you develop a custom design (ODM)?

Yes, our in-house design team develops custom designs. Structural changes require custom tooling and new molds; tooling fees, mold IP ownership, and custom-color minimums are agreed case by case per project. New designs go through a validation cycle before mass production. Share your concept or drawings to start a feasibility review.

Shipping & After-sales

Can you ship internationally, and what options are available?

Yes, we ship by sea and by air, and primarily serve distributors in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Sea freight is standard for full-container orders. We quote FOB Shenzhen by default and can arrange CIF or other Incoterms on request.

Are the batteries shipped as dangerous goods (DG)?

Yes, the lithium batteries are classified as dangerous goods (Class 9). We provide UN38.3 test reports and MSDS, and cartons carry the required DG marking. This documentation lets your forwarder book sea or air freight under IMDG/IATA rules.

What documents do you provide for customs clearance?

We provide a commercial invoice (CI), packing list (PL), bill of lading (B/L), and the compliance documents for your market (for the EU: CE and RoHS). Battery shipments also include UN38.3 and MSDS. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm the exact set.

What warranty do you provide?

We provide a 12-month warranty on the scooter and a 6-month warranty on the battery, covering defects from internal faults under normal use. Claims are handled with replacement parts, and the modular design keeps repairs simple and fast.

What after-sales support and spare parts do you offer?

We hold spare parts in stock and support distributors after delivery. Wear and replacement parts ship with or after your order on request, and our team assists with remote diagnosis by photo or video. This keeps local repairs fast and reduces downtime for your customers.

Compliance

What certifications do you hold?

We hold CE, EN 17128, EMC, RoHS, FCC, CCC, and SGS certifications. EN 17128 is the European safety standard specific to personal light electric vehicles, which matters for road-legal e-scooters in the EU. Certificates are tied to specific models, so tell us the model and market to confirm coverage.

Do you provide test reports and certification documents?

Yes, we provide test reports and certificates on request, including CE, EN 17128, EMC, RoHS, and battery UN38.3 and MSDS reports. These support your customs clearance and your own market registration. Documents are issued per model and per test scope.

What certifications are required to import e-scooters into Germany?

Germany requires an ABE (Allgemeine Betriebserlaubnis) type approval under the eKFV regulation for road use, alongside EN 17128, CE, EMC, and RoHS. We can provide ABE and eKFV compliance support. Germany’s rules are stricter than most EU markets, so confirm requirements for your model before ordering.

Can I import scooters over 350W? What power and speed limits apply?

Power and speed limits depend on the destination market. EU markets follow national rules around the EN 17128 framework, with typical limits near 20–25 km/h; Germany’s eKFV caps road use at 20 km/h and 500W nominal. We can configure motor power and speed limiting to your market. The D01 is EU-limited to 25 km/h.
